“Microsoft CRM Splash Screen has stopped working”

When launching Microsoft CRM 2011 on a Windows Server 2008 with Internet Explorer 9 installed, you get the error message “Microsoft CRM Splash Screen has stopped working”. To get round this you need to launch SetupServer.exe directly from the \server\amd64\ – folder.

The other option is to temporarily remove Internet Explorer 9.
